Hand Lawn Mowers

Many people believe that owning a hand lawn mower is old-fashioned, outdated and a waste of time and energy. In fact, there are several major benefits of owning and using a hand mower. These benefits should all be considered carefully before you decide to spend potentially a few thousand dollars for a huge ride-on or zero turn lawn mower. Considering all of these benefits may help you make a choice to the smaller and yet still satisfying hand lawn mower.

Large bulky lawn mowers are usually run on gas, and sometimes electricity. Either one of these, however, us an energy that is harmful to the environment. Gas powered mowers are the most harmful to the environment because they emit harsh fumes that pollute the air and add to the greenhouse effect known as global warming. Smaller hand lawn mowers are usually not powered at all, and when they are the engine is so small that any gas used won’t put off as many harmful fumes as the larger ones.
Therefore more energy and eco-conscious families may choose the hand mower.
Not only are hand mowers better for the environment, they can be better for you, too. Because hand mowers are rarely powered, it takes body exertion and muscle to push them along. Many people choose the hand mower to use as cardio exercising and to feel more active during the grass-mowing months.

Besides benefits to the environment and your body, the mower itself has some benefits as well. Because they are usually so light-weight, they can easily be folded (some of them) and stored without risking injury to your back to lift them. Another huge benefit of hand lawn mowers is that they utilize a rotary-style cutting blade. The rotary blade pushes grass down horizontally and then cuts vertically into the bottom of the grass, cutting it cleanly off. For smaller yards, this is a huge bonus, because larger reel style blades are known to bruise or tear the grass, leaving a brown tip and an unclean look. For those who like doing good things for the environment, themselves, and their lawns, hand lawn mowers are the way to go.
